Jeanie Bumsted, age 78, of Burr Ridge, IL and Rancho Mirage, CA, formerly of Iowa City, died of a long illness November 22, 2022. Born Jean Anne Tucker to the late Leo Gregory Tucker and Margaret Freda Shima on December 20, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa, Jeanie was a graduate of West Branch High School. Raised on the family farm, she loved horses and was a fearless barrel racer. She received her English degree from Upper Iowa University, became a high school teacher, then had a long career working in healthcare services that brought quality care to children and rural Iowans. While coordinating the Mobile Dental Unit for the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, she met Dr. Robert M. Bumsted, whom she married in 1977; Bob was the love of her life and helped her raise a blend of two children each from their respective first marriages. She also took classes in counseling and interior design at Iowa, was a passionate collector of Mauricio Lasansky prints, and was a mom to many pets, including four enormous Bouviers des Flandres. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports supporter, contributing her black-and-gold Corvette Stingray convertible to parades, tailgating with her friends, collecting team memorabilia and serving as the Town Hawk football mom to mid-1980's quarterback Mark Vlasic. Leaving Iowa in 1987, Jeanie was at Bob's side as he built a practice in Chicago; she enjoyed working in the Midwest Sinus Center clinics and getting to know the staff and the patients. She also loved spending winters in their home in Rancho Mirage, CA, where she and Bob made many dear friends over the decades. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Leota "Lee" Steffen, Patricia Peacock, and Helen Sorensen, and her brother, Harold G. Tucker. She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter Jacqueline Dutton Hart (Paul) Strebe of Minneapolis; son Jay M. (Amy Place) Dutton of Chicago; stepdaughter Tanya (Jon) Kugel of Woodbury, MN; stepson Todd R. (Kim) Bumsted of Palos Heights, IL; four grandchildren: Marina and Geneva Hart and Jarrett and Jaden Dutton; seven step-grandchildren: Lindsay, Josh and Caleb Kugel and Trevor, Clayton, Teagan and Tylar Bumsted; the stepchildren of Jacquie and Jay: Olivia and Isabel Strebe and Casteel and Brantley Lisac; sister-in-law Donna Tucker of West Branch, IA; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and special family members Larry Wilharm, Rich Nissen and Mark Vlasic.
