Virginia H. (Vrba) Johnson of Downers Grove, 91 years of age, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023.  Beloved wife of the late Leonard Johnson for 63 years. She was the only child of Edward and Myrtle (Blix) Vrba and was born at Norwegian American Hospital.  She attended Robert Burns Grade School and at 9 years old started taking piano lessons. Her rendition of "Silver Bells" at Christmas was her favorite to play. {After she married Len she played piano while he practiced singing for the Aeolian Choral Group.}  While attending Farragut High School she took up the clarinet and played in the school orchestra. She attended Herzl Junior College for two years.  She worked as a physician's assistant for Dr. Fischer in the Garland Building, Chicago, and they remained enduring friends.  She has fond memories of working in the medical field while waiting for the love of her life, Len Johnson to return from the Korean war.  They were married in October 1952 at Warren Park Presbyterian Church and later moved to Downers Grove.  They joined the First Congregational Church;  Len eventually opened Johnson Dental Lab, and Virginia learned accounting to kept track of accounts payable and receivables. After staying home to raise their children, she studied to become a real estate agent. Her relationships among her neighbors brought her lifelong joy!  She enjoyed golf and was a member of the WSIW Ladies Golf League at the DG Golf Club.  Other interests included, bowling, sewing, cooking, crossword puzzles and family vacations to Michigan, and on occasion, a vodka martini!  Virginia and Len attended their children's and grandchildren's band and choral concerts, school plays and numerous sporting events to see them perform.  They were active Athletic Booster members at DG North High School.  Virginia is survived by her loving children: Pamela (Jeffrey) Prenta, Scott (Judith) Johnson, and Kathleen Schlag.  Doting "Grandma J" to Brian Prenta, Taylor and Kendra Johnson, and Emily and David Schlag. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  Services are private.  Memorial gifts to First Congregational Church (DG) are welcome.
