Barbara Dindia Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Lorraine Dindia (née Rugg), daughter of the late Howard Ingalls Rugg and Marion Bramer Rugg, was born on June 29, 1939, in her family home in Altamont, New York.

Barbara grew up in rural New York on a dairy farm and loved to play in the lilac bushes with her sisters and brother. She suffered from the mumps at an early age and had to relearn how to walk as a small child. Ultimately Barbara went on to be a Drum Majorette in high school and then graduated from Becker College (Worcester, MA) and was a medical secretary for Sloan Kettering hospital in New York. She then spent most of her professional life as an Executive Assistant to the president of Cablevision New York and later furthered her education with a Bachelor of Science degree at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. Barbara loved life, loved to travel and had a wonderful laugh and twinkle in her eye when she found something funny.

On June 29, 1991, she was united in holy matrimony to Philip Dindia Sr. Their marriage was lovingly embraced by Philip’s children, Barbara (Peter) Murphy and Philip Jr. (Sue) Dindia. Barbara and Philip shared a joyful life centered on faith and family until his passing on December 4, 2011. Together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion.

Barbara was an active and faithful member of the Women’s Council at Saint Cletus Church in La Grange, Illinois. She generously gave of her time and talents, sewing and knitting for those in need. Her deep Catholic faith and selfless spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She found great joy in gardening, but above all, she cherished her family.

She quietly departed this life on Saturday, February 21, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Dindia Sr.; her parents, Howard and Marion Rugg; her sister and brother-in-law Vic and Shirley Megluevich, and brother-in-law Stanley Dickson and sister-in-law Louise Rugg.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her six grandchildren, Karen (Matthew) Ferguson, Kim (Ed) Kruse, Patti (Chris) Horstman, Mari (Dave) Chaplin, Nicole Arrigo, and Anthony Edborg,  as well as her great grandchildren Abby Ferguson, Louis Christopher, Emma (Adam) Kessler, Micky Horstman, Caitlin Kruse, Ella Horstman, Jake Chaplin and Isabella Brown.

She will also be dearly missed by her siblings Betty Dickson Brenton and Gerald (Janet) Rugg, in addition her nieces and nephews as well as their children; Christine Begin, Diane (Jack) Nolan, Pam (Joseph) Gervais, Cary (Helen) Dickson, Kendra (Rick) Siegle, Kort (Sharon) Dickson, Karl (Jean) Rugg, and Joanna-Maria Riggi, and children Greg (Libby) Slang, Heidi (Jeff) Vanhoozier, Suzi (Keith) Slang, Dustin (Carole) Gervais, Brittany (Josh) Moeves, Eric (Anna) Dickson, Chris (Autumn) Dickson, Travis Siegle, Cameron Siegle, Hanna (Anthony) Ferrezza, Emma Dickson, Kevin (Brenna) Rugg, Marisa Rugg, and 13 great, great nieces and nephews.
