Charlotte Ann Gilmore Obituary

Charlotte Ann (Leake) Gilmore passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, at the University of Chicago Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, to Edward and Eileen Leake, Charlotte leaves behind a remarkable legacy as an educator and philanthropist who was dedicated to advocating for children in the most disadvantaged communities of Chicago.

Charlotte was a proud graduate of Saint Margaret of Scotland and Loretto Englewood High School. She went on to attend Chicago Teacher’s College and later earned a Master’s degree in Education from Northeastern University. Charlotte spent her career with Chicago Public Schools, where she worked as both a guidance counselor and an eighth-grade teacher, profoundly impacting the lives of countless students.

Charlotte shared 46 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John F. Gilmore Jr. Together, they were passionate supporters of Mount Carmel High School, Old Saint Patrick’s Church, and Misericordia Home in Chicago. Charlotte also cherished the time spent with family, particularly on the beaches of Southwest Michigan and Southeast Florida.

Charlotte is survived by her sons, John F. Gilmore III and Christopher Dennis Gilmore; her sister, Marie Leake; her brothers, Christopher (Kathleen) and William Leake; her nephew, Cody Leake; and her niece, Alexandra Leake. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Gilmore Jr., and her brothers, Edward and Dennis Leake.
