Conrado "Jun" Manankil, Jr. Obituary

Conrado Nepomuceno Manankil, Jr. (“Jun”), 86, of Westmont, Illinois, passed away on December 14. Born in Angeles City, Philippines, he emigrated to Chicago in 1966, where he built a life devoted to family, community, and cultural preservation.

Jun was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Norma, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was a loving father to his daughter Dyan and her husband Charlie, and to his son Mark and his partner Susan. He was a proud grandfather to Jack, Matt, and Nate, and a cherished member of his extended family, Fred, KC, Whit, and Emma.

Jun was a proud member of the Nepomuceno family, known for its regional influence and whose ancestors were among the founders of Holy Angel University, a private Catholic institution.

A respected leader in the Chicago Filipino community, Jun was widely admired for his leadership, eloquence, and commitment to service. He was highly sought after as a Master of Ceremonies, known for his exceptional speaking skills and his ability to bring warmth and energy to community events.

In 1970, Jun founded Circulo Capampangan, a social organization dedicated to uniting sons and daughters of Pampanga and Tarlac in the Midwest and fostering cultural pride. He was also a founding member of the Chicago Philippines Lions Club, through which he participated in numerous philanthropic and service initiatives.

In the Philippines, Jun established Doña Gertrudes Village, a residential subdivision that provided single-family homes for families in Pampanga. In 2023, he authored Capampangan: Systemic Methods to Learn the Language. To further promote and preserve the Capampangan language, he sponsored a student essay contest, encouraging younger generations to learn and value their linguistic heritage.

Jun will be remembered for his leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to family and community. His legacy lives on through the institutions he built, the culture he preserved, and the many lives he touched.
