Craig Gordon Grimestad, 70, of Westmont, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10. He was born August 9, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to Olive and Earling Grimestad.

Craig graduated from York High School in Elmhurst, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute, and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He worked for the Electro Motive Division of General Motors for 30 years and then for Iron Mountain for 20 years.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was deeply involved in his family’s lives, instinctively stepping in to help and disappointed whenever he couldn’t. He was the heart of the family, outpouring his energy to make every person feel loved and to make every event special. Over the years he actively supported his family by serving as everyone’s primary handyman, a church youth leader, a sports coach, and a school board member.

As a passionate Christian, he shared his faith with others and lived his life as an example. In 1988, he was struck by lightning and used that experience to give his testimony and share the message of God’s salvation.  

Craig passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved Husband of Joann nee Peterson for 48 years. Devoted father of David (Michelle) Grimestad; Late Matthew (Susie) Grimestad, and Renae Grimestad. Beloved grandfather of Jonathan and Sarah Grimestad, Noelle and Emily Grimestad.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, from 9am until time of service 11am at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S Madison St, Willowbrook, IL 60527. Interment to follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
