Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Raul and Consuelo (nee Villanueva) Pecina and his older brother, Benito Contreras Jr.
Daniel was a long time resident of Canaryville where he attended St. Gabriel Grammar School and Tilden High School. Following the death of his brother "Benny" in Vietnam, Dan felt compelled to contribute his bit toward the service of our country and joined the Marines on August 28th, 1972, during the last few years of the Vietnam era. Dan spent 4 years in the Marines, serving at Camp Pendleton, California in the First Marine Division, First Battalion, First Shore Party.
Following his duty, Dan worked at Drexel Ice Cream Company, which employed many immediate and extended family members. Dan then pursued an education in computer programming which led to gainful employment with several companies amongst them, IBM, Sorbus, Basic Four. During this period Dan educated himself and developed skills as a handyman regarding all aspects of housing construction, repair, renovation, and remodeling. Subsequently Dan left Sanfilippo and Sons and became self-employed, and also developed and maintained a stellar reputation as an honest and reliable handyman.
Dan will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his hardy sense of humor. While visiting in person or chatting with Dan on the phone, one would have been guaranteed a time of funny or moving reminiscing and intense laughter. He had an upbeat, positive demeanor and will be missed.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed building and creating his ho scale train scenes on his custom train table he built with unique buildings and trains.
