Dr. Carlos Emilio Torres, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his Oak Brook, Illinois home on October 28, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on October 27, 1944 in Potosi, Bolivia, Carlos’s life was marked by his dedication, compassion, and sense of humor.

Dr. Torres began his career in medicine at the Universidad Mayor de San Andres Facultad de Medicina, graduating in 1970. He was one of only a few students from his medical class to move to the United States, where he went on to practice medicine for 45 years. He continued his training with an internship in pediatrics at St. Alexis Hospital, followed by a pediatrics residency at BronxCare Health System. He pursued fellowships in Neonatal at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago.

His commitment to neonatal care led him and his partner to establish the first Neonatal Unit in Wausau, Wisconsin. The unit, which provides critical care for newborns, is a project he helped fund personally. Through his work, he built lifelong connections with his patients and their families, and his compassionate approach left a lasting impact on many lives.

Carlos had a quick wit that could light up any room. Whether with family, friends, or even strangers, he had a unique way of bringing laughter to those around him. No matter the situation, Carlos could find a way to make you smile.

Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Monica Torres; his sons, Pierre and Shawn; his cherished grandson, Leo; and his brother, Jorge Torres and his nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be held to honor his life on Friday, November 8th at Adolf and Powell Funeral Home 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook, IL 60527 between 4:00PM to 6:00PM.
