Dr. Mathew Oommen, age 85, of Willowbrook, Il, passed on to enter his heavenly home on April 24th in the early morning. 

Mathew was born on May 7th 1938  to Presiding Bishop K.N. Oommen and Elizabeth Oommen. He completed his medical education at Trivandrum Medical College in Kerala, India in 1966: and  Internal Medicine Residency at Trivandrum Medical College in 1968.  He married his wife Achamma shortly before completing this training. While practicing Internal Medicine in Kerala, he turned his sights towards a new life in the U.S. for the two of them and their growing family. He embarked on this journey  in December of 1971 when he arrived in Chicago to begin his Internal Medicine Residency in the Cook County Hospital in Chicago.  Dr. Oommen gained great favor with the director of his program because of his medical acumen and work ethic and was given a spot in their Dermatology residency after just a few months. He completed his Dermatology residency in 1973 and started his solo practice which flourished and thrived until the month before he passed. 

Mathew Oommen had a joy and deep passion for medicine and in serving his patients. He was able to do what he loved until the very end and had patients even calling to see him even up until his last day.  Another lifelong desire of his was to help those who are impoverished or in need.  He was blessed to be able to do this in an incredibly impactful way, yet in keeping with his character, he did so without fanfare or accolades for himself. 

After marrying Achamma in 1968 they went on to have their children Elizabeth, Tony and Shirley. He is survived by his wife and children as well as Tony’s wife Beverly Oommen and children Benjamin and Grace.  Also by Shirley’s Husband Matthew Stilson and children Taryn and Brooklyn Stilson.  

Mathew's wishes were to be cremated. 

Visitation will be held on June 21st from 10am until 1pm at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S Madison St, Willowbrook, IL 60527. Family and friends will gather on Saturday June 22 for a 10am Memorial service at Christ Church,  501 Oak Brook Rd, Oak Brook, Il. Interment will follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
