Duane A. Hammer passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on January 27, 2026, at the age of 92.
Duane is survived by his sister, DeLois (Hammer) Rose, his brother, David Hammer, his nephews, Guy Rose and Scott Backman, and his niece, Cheryl (Hammer) DiCosola. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Passardi) Hammer, his sister, Shirley (Hammer) Backman, and his nephews, Gar Rose, Kenny Backman, and Charles Hammer.
Duane was born on October 23, 1933, in Evergreen Park, IL, to Charles Hammer and Esther (Beyer) Hammer. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1952 and went to University of Illinois at Chicago. He worked for the Association of American Railroads, where he worked until he retired. He married the love of his life, Rose Passardi, in October, 1967. After they married they built their own home, where they happily lived the rest of their lives.
Duane was a talented machinist and enjoyed learning new things. He read the newspaper every day and often shared the new things he was learning with other family members. He also loved to collect record albums. When he was younger, he enjoyed stockcar racing.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday February 3, 2026 from 10am until time of service 11am at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S Madison St, Willowbrook, IL 60527. Interment Holy Sepulchre.
