It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beautiful angel, our beloved Mother/Grandmother, Edilvurga—affectionately known as Doña Mil or Doña Edi—who went home to be with the Lord on the morning of April 19, 2026.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose joyful spirit, deep faith, and boundless kindness touched everyone she met. We feel so blessed to have known her, loved her, and learned from her. She will be missed more than words can express and cherished always in our hearts.
Edilvurga Sanchez Melgar of Cicero passed away on April 19, 2026 at her home. She was born in Mexico on July 10, 1932 to Agapito Sanchez Medina and Josefina Melgar Jaimes.
Siblings (sisters): Miriam, Minerva Sanchez Melgar.
Children: Celerina, Yolanda, Antonio, Enrique, Teresa, Antonia, Edgar Ortega (Dalia Martinez).
Grandchildren: Jose Manuel Sanchez, Yomara Figueroa, Zulema Avalos, Mayka Figueroa-Lopez, Tirzo Garcia, Griselda Alvarez, Juan Sanchez, Sergio Figueroa, Guadalupe Sanchez, Edergil Figueroa, Ekna Sanchez, Erendira Zizumbo, Enrique Ortega II, Neill Garcia, Evelyn Ortega, Abigail Diaz, Claudia Avalos, America Ortega, Abraham Ortega.
Great grandchildren: George, Abigail, Bradley, Emily, Alexxa, Sophia, Julian, Sergio E., Yeshua, Fatima, Jose Maria, Nathaniel, Ameluz, Sain, Fatima, Yajaira, Renata, Ximena, Karol, Gael, Yeseli, Cesar, Andrea, Adrian.
She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Ortega Charrez, her daughters; Maria Ortega Sanchez, Petra Ortega Sanchez and Siblings; Roberto, Abel, Godofredo, Petra, Domitilo.
A visitation will be held on Friday May 1, 2026 from 4pm to 8pm at Adolf Funeral Home, 2921 S Harlem Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday May 2, 2026 for a 10am Funeral Mass at St Leonard Catholic Church, 3318 S Clarence Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402.
Interment Panteón Municipal de Coatlán del Río, Mexico.
