Erich Vokral Obituary
Erich Vokral, age 65, passed suddenly May 4, 2026. Erich is survived by his son Alec Vokral (Kaisha Zick) and grandchildren Fox and Evie Vokral, sisters Jody Wegrzynski (Myron) and Justin Dahlstrom (John), brother Evan Vokral, and nieces and nephews Andrew Wegrzynski, Samantha Dahlstrom, Tripper Vokral (Cody), and Heather Vokral. He is predeceased by his parents Edward Vokral and Judith Nash. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and all who knew him.
Born in McHenry, Illinois, Erich grew up in the Chicago suburbs, moving ever farther north, eventually settling in Lake County. There, he found great joy in nature, spending countless hours walking through parks and prairies. His deep appreciation for the outdoors remained a constant throughout his life.
An artist, musician, photographer, and entrepreneur, Erich displayed his numerous talents in many areas. He began his professional career in mold making, among the the early adopters of computerized design. With the advent of the computer age, Erich delved deeper and deeper into the myriad of uses for the new technology. Starting by creating satirical websites, he eventually provided artistically designed templates for do-it-yourself website creation along with technical support to those using his products to create their own online presence.
Art and design had a major influence on all he did. As a child, he sketched detailed studies of the human body, including creating a series of detailed pencil drawings of hands. Later, he began working in acrylics, taking inspiration from his own photographs of Chicago’s lakefront, neighborhoods, and skyline. Though he did not pursue art professionally, his work was showcased at several gallery exhibitions.
Music was a lifelong passion. Self-taught on guitar, keyboard, and drums, Erich composed original pieces and collaborated with fellow musicians. One of his early works, Football Face, was written to lampoon his sister after her wisdom tooth extraction. He was fascinated by musical instruments from multiple cultures and collected unique examples to bring new sounds to his music.
Erich was a loyal father, brother and friend and dearly loved his family, offering support to those around him. His unique perspective, creativity, intelligence, and quiet generosity will be profoundly missed, leaving a lasting space in the lives of those who knew him.
