Gene R. Roman (né Obukowicz), born June 17, 1942, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026.

Gene served in the United States Army in the early 1960s. He spent his career in the entertainment and sales industries, including time as a disc jockey in Springfield, Illinois. He was proud of his radio voice and never lost it, even long after his DJ days were over.

In his later years, Gene lived a quiet, simple life. Independent by nature, he appreciated a good meal, a newspaper, or a long walk. He had a perspective distinctly his own and a steady interest in the world around him.

In retirement, Gene volunteered at CASI, the Center for Active Seniors, Inc., in the Quad Cities, and was often willing to help others with errands and small fixes around the house. He stayed well informed on current events and enjoyed watching game shows.

Gene is survived by his children, Philip G. (Jamie Kucera) Roman and Leslie P. (Rob) DiMeo; his grandchildren, RJ, Pauline, and James; his brother, Dennis (Susan) Obukowicz; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jon (Jack) Obukowicz,  Mother, Maxine Duffy and Father, Roman Obukowicz.

After a long and full broadcast, Gene has signed off. He will be missed.

A visitation will be held Saturday October 17,2026 from 9am until time of service 11am at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S Madison St, Willowbrook, IL 60527.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s memory can be made to CASI, The Center for Active Seniors, Inc., 1035 West Kimberly Road Davenport, IA 52806.
