George Arthur Haralampopoulos Obituary

George Arthur Haralampopoulos, beloved family patriarch, and a pillar of his community, passed away on January 23, 2026 at the age of 75.

A proud Chicagoan, George was born on March 20, 1950, to his loving parents, Argyrios and Athanasia (nee Mallires) Haralampopoulos.

George’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Jean (nee Pipikios), with whom he built a life full of unwavering love, tradition, and shared memories.

His legacy continues through his children: Arthur (Raina) and Niko (Rachel). George was an extremely proud Papouli who found immense joy in his grandchildren, Athan, George, and Nia.

George cherished his deep-rooted companionship with his dear siblings and is survived by his brother Bob (Alexandra) and his sister Sophia (Peter) Vlahos. He was the esteemed son-in-law of the late Nikolaos and Panayiota Pipikios. Dearest brother-in-law of the late Vasso (the late Jerry) Katsogianos, Toula (the late Danny) Zakos, and Joanne Pipikios.

George leaves behind a vast network of loved ones, including countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, a favorite to many, and all of whom felt his genuine kindness and the glow of his welcoming love.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Argyrios (of Chrysovitsi, Greece) and Athanasia (of Magoula, Greece). He will be remembered as a man of integrity who cherished his Greek heritage, his Chicago roots, and above all, the people he loved.

George was a living example of “philotimo” (fee-lo-TEE-moh), an honorable Greek concept of compassion where you generously give to others without expecting return, where you respect tradition and community, and sacrifice for other’s needs before one’s own.

George dedicated his early years to his education, graduating from Von Steuben High School, followed by the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Shortly after completing pharmacy school, George founded Arcadia Drugstore Ltd., a family-operated pharmacy on the north-side of Chicago, where he served as the community’s trusted pharmacist for 26 years. At Arcadia, George’s service and “philotimo” extended beyond the surrounding Greek community and neighborhood, where many patrons traveled for George’s expertise, compassion, and commitment to their well-being. Additionally, George was a well-respected employer, that served as a mentor and confidant to many employees, who have gone on to have highly successful careers.

George had a passion for capturing and sharing life events, always adapting to the latest media and having his camera ready, documenting every event, both large and small. George was especially blessed to travel with family, and those images captured will be cherished for a long time.

George was a God-loving man of deep faith. While a sudden, heartbreaking loss to family and friends that will be felt for many years to come, While his passing was sudden, George lived as an example of love and was adored by many that will keep his memory eternal.
