Judith E. (Larson) Schomer Obituary
Judith Esther “Judy” Schomer, 85, of Berwyn, IL, was called home on December 16, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. She was surrounded by her extended family and an impossible amount of love at the time of her passing.
Judy was born on March 14, 1940 in Berwyn, IL, the daughter of John and Maybelle Larson. While Judy did grow up an only child, she completed her journey on this earth having collected an unbelievably large family full of endless love and support.
Judy was married to Michael F. “Mike” Schomer Sr. (b. September 13, 1937, d. July 7, 2013) for nearly 30 years. Together, Judy and Michael had six beautiful children: Michael “Mike” (Rosemary), Scott (Wanda), Timothy “Tim”, William “Billy” (Terri), Daniel “Dan” (Amy), and Sandra “Sandi” (Scott). Judy also loved her plentiful grandchildren: Michael (Meredith), Jessica, TJ, Tommy, Ryan, Gracie, Katie, Allyson, Abby, Sydney, Ashley, Nicki, Madison, Kassidy, Malayna, Greg, Nick (Keith), Sam (Abbie), and great granddaughter Elena. Judy also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Judy will be reuniting with her parents, John and Maybelle; former husband and friend, Michael Schomer Sr.; numerous sisters and brothers in law, and beloved grandchild Timothy Jon “TJ” Schomer Jr.
While Judy’s first priority was her family, she also put her talents to work as manager of Steins in Lyons restaurant for nearly 12 years, spent time as an insurance adjuster, and even gained some local fame as a talented diamond specialist at CD Peacock. Judy’s hardworking attitude and ability to connect with just about anyone made her a valuable resource to everyone she worked with.
Outside of her work, Judy spread her love and light into this world through her generous heart. Judy never knew a stranger. Her legendary open-door-policy meant she always had a house full of family, friends, children, grandchildren, and anyone else who needed a hot meal and a warm bed. Judy’s infectious laugh, sparkling wit, and love for all things bold, glittered, and colorful made her the center of every room she was in.
Soap operas, hoop earrings, manicured nails, time by the pool, and family parties in McHenry were just a handful of Judy’s favorite things. She was first and foremost a woman dedicated to her family, but she was also deeply committed to her friends and her nearly 40 years of Bunco nights. Judy also loved the companionship of pets, particularly her dogs. Judy leaves behind three loving pups she shared with her daughter Sandi and granddaughter Sydney: Mala, Reagan, and Lulu.
Over Judy’s long and storied life, she faced many challenges and hard times, but her strong will and wide support system meant she was able to overcome loss and illness. Diagnosed with cancer in 2011, Judy was able to come away cancer-free. Though she battled dementia in her later years until the end of her life, she never allowed the loss of her memory to cloud her love for her family. Through her final moments, she retained her bold personality and unwavering spirit.
Visitation and services to honor Judy’s wonderful life and lasting legacy will be held for the public on Sunday December 21, 2025 at Adolf Funeral Home, 2921 S. Harlem Ave., Berwyn, IL. Services will begin at 10:30am and end at 2:30pm. Luncheon details are to follow.
For those who wish to privately celebrate Judy’s memory, we encourage you to tip back a Dr. Fong at Chef Shangri-La, enjoy a comforting meal at Connie’s on S. Harlem Ave, or throw on an episode of General Hospital.
Though Judy’s body has left us, her spirit and influence will live on through the love she instilled in this world during the 85 years we were all lucky enough to have with her.
