Judith Gail Tremmel Obituary

Judith Gail Lemond Tremmel, age 85, passed away surrounded by love of her family on April 22, 2026 in Westchester, Illinois. Judith was born on September 21, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to William Roy Lemond and Elizabeth (Bibb) Lemond. She grew up in Berwyn, Illinois with her parents and brother Randall Lemond, where her love for reading, writing, and the Chicago Cubs began to emerge at a young age. Judith grew up in Chicago but had a long and special relationship with her cousin Barbara Radford and Aunt Clara Gentry with who she spent many summers visiting in Tennessee. Judith was proud that her Tennessee roots went back 12 generations in which some of her relatives fought in the Civil War. Judith was very proud to be a part of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The oldest of two children, Judith, was a beautiful spirit who lit up a room with her kind and thoughtful words, attentiveness to other’s needs, and love of learning that she shared with others. Judith graduated from the University of Illinois where she obtained high honors of academic excellence in secondary education where she was a part of the International Honor Society in Education, Kappa Delta Pi. Judith spent 30 years in the Riverside Brookfield school system teaching 1st grade at Hollywood Elementary. Judith leaves behind a legacy not only to her students but children, grandchildren, and her beloved great grandchild the love of learning. Let us remember the dedication, passion, and lasting impact Judith had inside and outside the classroom for 30 years.

Judith married in 1963 and remarried July 1st, 1978, to her husband Raymond Tremmel. Judith and Raymond created their home together in Riverside, Illinois joining together Judith’s sons Gregory and David Wiersema with Raymond’s children Pam Smith and Mike Tremmel. Judith and Raymond spent 48 years happily married raising their children in Riverside. Judith and Raymond shared the love of travel visiting various destinations such as Jamaica, England, Italy, Arizona, Florida, Disneyland, Hawaii, and all throughout Europe. Judith and Raymond spent 32 years in their Riverside home sharing memories of marriage, raising children, welcoming grandchildren, and creating beautiful holiday memories. Judith’s hobbies were partaking in crafts, reading books and getting lost in character, as well as playing the piano with her grandchildren. Later in life, Judith and Raymond moved to Westchester, Illinois and lived their last years together enjoying their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Judith was especially proud to become a great grandmother and be called GiGi.

Judith is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Raymond Tremmel; her children Gregory (Lynn) Wiersema and David Wiersema; her stepchildren Pam Smith and Mike Tremmel; her brother Randall Lemond; her grandchildren Christopher Wiersema, Lisa (Nick) Ciszewski, and Brett Wiersema, Matthew Smith and Ashley Tipton; and her great grandson Brantley Ciszewski.
