Kenneth A. Bailey Obituary
Kenneth A. Bailey, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026.
Ken, formerly of Homewood-Flossmoor, was born in Chicago on January 5, 1944, to the late Ann and Harry A. Bailey.
Ken lived a life defined by faith, craftsmanship, and a deep love for his family. A member of the first graduating class of Marion Catholic High School in 1962, he lived guided by a deep and abiding faith.
Ken pursued a variety of professions throughout his life. In 1967, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and became a registered pharmacist in 1968. He later spent more than 25 years as the owner and general contractor of Bailey Construction Company. In 1997, he earned his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law.
A gifted builder, Ken had a rare talent for creating with his hands—from boats to homes to fine furniture. He took great pride in doing things well and doing them right, leaving behind not only structures but lasting legacies that reflect care and precision.
Ken was also a talented musician who sang, played guitar, and composed songs. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of music with his family and while performing with the Road Runners.
Above all, Ken’s greatest passion was his family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His ability to love and forgive unconditionally will live on in those he held dear.
Though his final moments were quiet and not without hardship, he was deeply loved and never truly alone in the hearts of those who knew him. The love that defined his life remains a lasting and meaningful comfort.
Ken is survived by his daughter, Meredith Bailey, and his son, Matthew (Marisa) Bailey; his beloved granddaughters, Ava, Elena, and Audrey Bailey; his brother, Donald P. (Elizabeth) Bailey; his sister-in-law, Karen Bailey; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Gail L. Bailey (née Tishey); his brother, Harry J. Bailey; and his parents.
