Mary Josephine Vozenilek Obituary

Mary Josephine Vozenilek, nee Mensik of Stickney passed away on July 4, 2024 at McNeal Hospital in Berwyn. She was born in Chicago on November 12, 1941 to John & Josephine Mensik. She was preceded in death by her parents.  Loving mother of the late Anne (Greg) Mulroe and their child Sarah Mulroe; Anthony(Sharon) Vozenilek and children Ryan, Joshua, and Luke; George(Jeanine) Vozenilek and children Bianca, Matt, and Nina; Joanna (Kirk) Nauman, and children Kala, Kody, and Sam. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Mary & George were married October 20, 1962 on Sweetest Day. They celebrated 61 years last October. Mary wore many hats throughout her life.  She graduated nursing school in 1962, she was a Licensed massage therapist for many years, she was a co-owner in a family business called Czech Kitchens where they carried on her mother's legacy of making Josie's dumplings and other ethnic food. She was proud of her Czech heritage and was a member of the Moravian Cultural Society for most of her life.  Her greatest loves though were her grandchildren. She was the happiest when she was spending time with them whether it was making Christmas cookies, decorating Easter eggs, taking them on shopping trips to buy Christmas presents for their parents, or even taking them to see a movie. She would do anything to put a smile on their faces including sending many special gifts whenever she could. She was the Jello queen and brought it to every family party. She also loved Weber Bakery and would bring it for all to enjoy because it’s the best bakery in Chicago. She was the best Mom and Grandmother anyone could ask for.

Mary loved to read and was a huge Harry Potter fan. I don't think a day went by that she didn't read her horoscope as she was a believer in the stars as she was a true Scorpio. If you knew Mary, you knew all about Mercury being in retrograde and she would make sure you didn't buy a car or other big purchases. She loved word games and played them often on her phone as well as Sudoku in every Sunday paper. Although, I don't think anything came close to her love of lotto and scratchy lotto tickets. It was one of her goals in life, to win the millions to share with her family. I hope they have lotto, lightning, or bingo in Heaven because that's where you'll find her.

Mary could make friends in a closet and loved to chat. She had the biggest heart and loved to take care of everyone around her. She will be missed by all who knew her and we know she was met by her daughter Anne and her parents with open arms in Heaven. Until we meet again, we love you.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 19, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm at Avenue Christian Church, 5750 Holmes Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514. Family and friends will meet at the church on Saturday July 20, 2024 for a 10 am visitation until time of funeral service at 11am. Private Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
