Michael "Mike" Charles Oliver Obituary
The treasured life of Michael “Mike” Charles Oliver, 59, ended peacefully after a month-long battle with Ehrlichia Chaffeensis. He was surrounded by his family at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL on October 4th, 2024.
On February 1, 1965, Mike was born to Robert and Charlene (nee Molitor) Oliver in Evergreen Park, IL at Little Company of Mary Hospital. His family settled in Downers Grove, and he attended Downers Grove North High School (Class of 83). In 1983, Mike became a father to his first child, Christine. In 1989, Mike welcomed his second child, Michael. He was the beloved husband of Kelly (nee Smith) Oliver, whom he married in July 2004. At this point, he welcomed Kelly's daughter, Alex Wyatt, as his own.
His proudest achievements were as a father and grandpa to his loving family. Mike was a devoted husband to his wife Kelly. They took many trips together. Some of his favorite adventures were on their motorcycles, including Sturgis, and a ride around Lake Michigan. Mike spent his summers at Lake Wildwood where he forged many close friendships and cherished the time he spent there with his family, grandchildren, and friends. Mike was a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, children, siblings, mother, extended family, and close friends.
With his father's passing at a young age, Mike took on additional responsibilities as the patriarch of the family, acting as a guide and support to the many people in his life. His nieces and nephews adored him and looked up to him. He was a coach, a mentor, and a protector to those around him. He was the first call in an emergency and could be relied on at a moment’s notice. Mike would always make it his duty to make sure you had your basic needs met, even if it meant he had to wait.
He also enjoyed working on projects at his camper, motorcycles, his Corvette, listening to music, fishing, napping, having a good drink, and a quiet sunny day at the beach.
Those left to cherish their memories of Mike are his spouse, Kelly Oliver; his children: Christine (Ryan) Galli, Michael (Margi) Oliver, and Alex Wyatt; his grandchildren: Charlie Galli and Blake Deming; his mother: Charlene Oliver, father-in-law: Don Smith; his siblings: Mary Ellen (Michael) Kern, Teri (John) Azzarello, Robert (Kathy) Oliver, David (Reema) Oliver; his loyal dogs: Dixie and Reba as well as a large extended family. Mike is preceded in death by his father: Robert Oliver, his Mother-in-law: Beth Smith, Brother-in-law; Scott Tepe Nephew: Kenny Kern, and his beloved dog of 13 years Dexter.
