Patricia Kelly Connery, age 95, longtime resident of Arlington Heights and Elmhurst, IL and Naples, FL passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 in Elmhurst, IL surrounded by loving family.

She was born on May 3, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Dr. Paul and Gertrude (Healy) Kelly. Pat attended Immaculata High School and Chicago Teachers College, both in Chicago, IL. She married her best friend, Dr, Joseph J. Connery, Sr, in Chicago, IL on February 7, 1948.

She is survived by children Carol (Thomas) Krupa of Mt. Prospect, IL, Claudia (Dan) Krueger of Darien, IL, Catherine (late Dale) Munn of Buffalo Grove, IL, Joseph, Jr. (Vicki) of Colorado Springs, CO, Tom (Becky) of Downers Grove, IL, Connie (Mike) Phillips of Arlington Heights, IL, and Christine Connery of New Port Richey, FL; grandchildren, Karen, Tom (Colleen), Peter and Bob (Michelle) Krupa, Katie Telecki, Dan (Michelle) and Joe (Caroline) Krueger, Christy and Patrick Munn, Vanessa (Sam) and Joe (Chris) Connery, Meredith (Pat) O’Hara and Paul (Nicole) Connery, Colleen (Mike) Conwood, Megan (Peter) DeVries, Michael Phillips and Alexander (Sarah), Andrew and Patrick Connery; thirty-one great-grandchildren and many, many beloved nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe; sisters, Mary Kelly, Virginia (James) Kindelin, Frances (Russell) Leist and Barbara (James) Thorsdad; in-laws, Thomas (Elaine) Connery, William (Rosemary) Connery, and Frank Lusson; son-in-law Dale Munn; nephew Thomas Thorsdad; niece Susan Thorsdad Hugus; and grandsons Frank Connery and Nicholas Connery.

Pat started her career in education; she worked as a teacher for several years. She was a traditional homemaker of the 1960’s devotedly raising her seven children, and supporting her husband Joe’s career with elegant dinner parties. She worked at Carson Pirie Scott & Co, and later in manpower planning for Eastern Airlines. Pat was a gifted interior decorator with an eye for timeless style and a passion for change. She tirelessly redecorated and religiously rearranged the furniture in her Arlington Heights home on a weekly basis. She was also fond of crafting and ladies’ luncheon with her dear friend Judy Kahl.

She and Joe retired to Naples, FL and spent many winters basking in the sun, golfing and walking two miles per day (bar none). She and Joe traveled — from cross-country family camping trips in a 9-person tent to seeing the world on the supersonic Concorde. 

In her later years, she had generous family support, a wonderful staff at the Gilead unit at Park Place of Elmhurst, and the loving support and friendship of her long-time aid, Sherina Strickland.

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, all are welcome to her wake at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S Madison St, Willowbrook IL 60527, at 9:15 to 10:15am, processing to Mass of Christian Burial at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst, IL 60126 at 11:00 am. 

Interment will be next to Joe at the Memory Gardens Cemetery veterans memorial wall in Arlington Heights, IL at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association Gift of Hope (
