Patricia "Patty" O'Brien Obituary

Patty O’Brien, 84 years old of Burr Ridge Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a 5-year battle with Corticobasal Degenerative Disease.

Born December 29, 1940, to the late Denis Foley and Mary Teresa Sullivan, she was a beloved wife to the late John T. O’Brien, beloved mother to Geri-Ann (Ross) Williams, John T, Jacqueline (Douglas) Binder and Rebecca (Jonathan) Radford

Adored Grandmother to Michaela (Nick) Giampapa, John (Corinne) Binder, Quintin (Jenna) Binder, Morgan Williams, Lauren Williams, Forrest Williams, Maren Radford and Hannah Radford

Cherished Great Grandmother of Fiona, Autumn and Fitzgerald Binder, Gabriella, Vanessa and Samantha Giampapa and Liam and Liliana Binder

Beloved Sister to the late Jack Sullivan, the late Maureen ( the late Robert) Einbecker, Kathleen ( Kitty) ( the late William) Shannon, Eilleen ( James) Fraiser, Denis (Marietta) Sullivan and Identical Twin Gerri (Paul) Popper

Special Aunt to dozens and dozens of nieces and nephews.

Patty graduated from Mundelein College, married and raised a family.  She went on to graduate from Harper College in Dental Hygiene and was a dental hygienist in a periodontal practice in Arlington Heights for over thirty years while bringing up her children in Barrington.  She was known for her entertaining prowess, setting the most elegant tables and was often the best-dressed person in the room with wonderful fashion sense.  She was an avid snow skier, slalom water skier and hiker well into her 70s. She was a very determined woman and accomplished what she set her mind to. Her goal of slalom water skiing in her eighties was achieved in August of 2021. In her 70s she joined many gyms, bootcamps and walking clubs.  An accomplished hiker; she hiked many fourteeners.  Two years running she was the winner of the Naperville Women’s Half Marathon in her age category.  She completed the Tough Mudder Twice.  She was a world traveler and there are very few countries she did not love and want to return to.  The last adventure before being diagnosed with this degenerative debilitating disease was hiking the Pyrenees and attending a six week Spanish immersion class. The crowning glory of that trip was a three-week adventure in Spain filled with laughter and shenanigans with her twinnie, Gerri.

Our Patty, aka Gramma Patty, Gramcracker, our little bird will be very missed. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved and inspired, she will always be remembered for her kindness to all.
