Philip Tenbroeck Reed, 81, passed away on August 31, 2026. He was a devoted son,
brother, husband, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a life defined by love and
quiet strength, and he will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he
touched.
 
Phil was born in Chicago in 1944 to Raymond and Martha. He was preceded in death
by his parents, his younger brother, John, and his first wife, Beth, with whom he shared
an important chapter of his life. He was blessed with a second wonderful marriage to his
beloved wife, Kathleen. Together, they built a life filled with companionship, love, and
countless memories of their many travels.
 
Phil loved his family deeply, and nothing brought him greater joy than his grandchildren,
Amanda and Charlie. He treasured his time with them, and he took great pride in
watching them grow and thrive. He also cherished his many cousins and extended
family members, maintaining connections that meant so much to him throughout his life.
For more than 30 years, Phil worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. His long career
reflected the qualities that defined him: dedication, reliability, perseverance, and a quiet
commitment to doing things well.
 
Phil enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places, but he also found happiness in the
simple beauty of the world around him. He loved observing nature, taking the time to
notice the sights and moments that others might pass by. He had a thoughtful way of
appreciating life without needing to be the center of attention.
 
Phil did not need to be loud to make an impression. His steady nature and calming
presence spoke for him. He was someone people could count on, someone whose
presence made things feel a little more settled, and someone whose love was often
shown in the simple, consistent ways that mattered most.
  
Phil is survived by his wife, Kathleen; her daughter, Julie; his son-in-law, Steve; his
grandchildren, Amanda and Charlie; and many cousins and extended family members
whom he cherished greatly.
 
Phil was deeply loved by his family and will be missed more than words can express.
A visitation will take place at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home on September 8, 2026 at
10:00 AM with a prayer service to follow at 12:30 PM.
