Stephen Anthony De Lurgio Obituary

Stephen Anthony De Lurgio Sr, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, cherished friend, and educator, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on June 27, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, Stephen was the beloved son of Louis J. and Amelia B. De Lurgio. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Moglia and is survived by his brother Louis De Lurgio and his sister Loretta Bober.

Stephen earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He later continued at Saint Louis University, where he received both his MBA and Ph.D. Stephen spent over 33 years as a professor at the University of Missouri–Kansas City and six years as a senior outcomes researcher at Children's Mercy Hospital. He authored three textbooks, contributing insights to the field of business and operations management, and over 25 articles in both business and medicine. His impact extended far beyond the classroom, shaping generations of students and colleagues alike.

Stephen was a devoted husband to Ina K. De Lurgio (Nee Kimmel), his partner in life and love. Together, they built a warm and enduring family. He was a proud and caring father to sons Stephen II and Patrick, daughter-in-law Cinta, and a loving and patient grandfather to Sara and Maya, who brought him endless joy.

Those who knew Stephen will remember his outgoing and gentle spirit, his deep well of patience, and his quiet humor. He found simple pleasures in life, especially trout fishing and playing cards with his family, where his enthusiasm was matched only by his laughter. Stephen’s legacy is one of wisdom, kindness, and a steadfast dedication to the people he cared for. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He led a life marked by quiet strength, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
