Volney Dawson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd, 2024. Volney grew up in Scarsdale, NY, the youngest of four sisters. She leaves behind six children: Amy Gray (Tom), Judy Meza (Manny), Lily Field, Cindy Gutic (Misha), Sandy Dawson, and John Dawson; twelve grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Nick (Anna) Gray, Rocky (Ivy) Meza, Ella (Mark) Tometich, Logan, Renee, and Jason Field, Mara (Jose) Velazquez, Charlie Gutic, Ivan, Max, and Bay Gugel-Dawson, and one great-granddaughter, Ruby Velazquez.
Volney attended Wheelock College in Boston, where she received her degree in teaching and met her husband, John Dawson, who passed away in 2009. They lived most of their lives in Clarendon Hills and Willowbrook, IL. Volney had a joyful spirit and an unwavering faith in the strength of love to foster a more peaceful world. Her reflections on God’s love inspired several books of poetry. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a love for music and singing. She valued the simple things in life and felt gratitude for her life, her family, and her friendships. Volney will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held at Adolf & Powell Funeral Home, 7000 S. Madison, Willowbrook, IL, on November 1, 2024, from 11:00-1:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm.
